FAQs
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes! Acupuncture is a very safe medical procedure when administered by a qualified practitioner. Very few negative effects have been found in clinical cases.
Acupuncture rarely hurts. Over 95% of patients are comfortable with acupuncture therapy. Due to the relaxation effect, some animals will even fall asleep during treatments.
How could my pet benefit from Rehab and Massage?
Can you imagine a person getting knee surgey and not going to a physical therapist as a part of their recovery? Our pets deserve the same considerations after a surgery on a joint or after an injury. Arthritis pain and mobility limitations can also be greatly improved through therapeutic exercise and other lifestyle changes. Rehab and Massage can be beneficial for the maintenance of an everyday athlete and also dramatically slow the progression of degenerative neurological disease.
What is therapeutic laser?
Laser therapy uses light to favor and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. The laser beam is moved over the skin so that the light energy (photons) penetrates the tissue where it interacts with various molecules (chromophores) that cause different biological effects. It produces a photochemical, photothermal, and photomechanical effect. (celasers.com)
Laser therapy can be very effective for skin conditions, arthritis, Intervertebral Disc Disease, etc.
How often will my pet need to be treated?
Dr. Kelican will create a tailored plan using a variety of modalities including acupuncture, laser therapy, and therapeutic exercise. When first starting treatment, your pet will usually need to be seen at least once a week. As progress is made and depending on the chronicity of your pet’s condition, we may be able to graduate from treatments after 3-8 weeks, or your pet may need lifetime maintenance. Whether your animal does better in the clinic or better with home-calls, we will work as a team to develop a plan that fits your lifestyle, budget, and goals for your pet.
